Deadline Hollywood, 10/22/14: On the eve of the opening of their Keanu Reeves-starrer John Wick, PalmStar Media Capital and Thunder Road Pictures have made an overall financing deal that will give Basil Iwanyk’s production company more than $200 million in equity annually to fully finance and produce five to six star-driven films with budgets between $20 million and $50 million. PalmStar has the option to finance or co-finance the bigger-budget films. Iwanyk’s company will also have over $5 million in development capital to percolate projects in the deal he has closed with PalmStar Media CEO Kevin Frakes.

Variety, 10/8/14: Production-financing veterans Bill Block (“Fury”) and Kevin Frakes have teamed with hedge fund Merced Capital L.P. to launch a $500 million slate of films under the Merced Media moniker.

The new venture will be a development, production and financing vehicle and unveil its first projects shortly.

Dark Horizons, 6/14/14:  Two months after Daniel Craig unexpectedly dropped out, Keanu Reeves has now taken over the lead role in “Frozen River” director Courtney Hunt’s courtroom drama “The Whole Truth” at PalmStar Entertainment.

Reeves will play a defense attorney who fights to get his teenage client acquitted of murdering his wealthy father. Nicholas Kazan penned the script.

Variety, 4/4/14: In what marks one of its biggest film projects to date, WWE Studios has joined PalmStar Media Capital to co-finance and co-produce the Vince Vaughn thriller “Term Life” that Peter Billingsley will direct and Universal Pictures will release in 2015.

The film is currently lensing, and co-stars Jon Favreau and Hailee Steinfeld.

Variety, 3/1/14:  Lionsgate has acquired U.S. distribution rights for $7 million to upcoming indie action-comedy “American Ultra,” starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart.

The studio acquired the project a month before shooting starts in New Orleans with “Project X” director Nima Nourizadeh helming from a script by Max Landis.

FilmNation will launch foreign sales at AFM. CAA is repping U.S. rights. “Ultra” will re-team Stewart and Eisenberg five years after they starred in Greg Mottola’s “Adventureland.”

Rights to “Jenny’s Wedding” will be for sale at the American Film Market starting Nov. 6. The Solution is handling foreign territories, while CAA and Gersh are handling U.S. rights.
